Requirements

All volunteers must undergo the following:

• Child and Family Intervention Record Check
• Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
• Oath of Confidentiality
• Sign Just-Us Girls Policy Agreement

Note: prior involvement with the criminal justice system and/or the child protection system does not necessarily preclude involvement with Just-Us Girls. You will need to be prepared to be upfront and honest about what happened and the steps taken to overcome your choices. 

Volunteer Roles

Just-Us Girls needs volunteers for different roles. Expectations, duties and time commitments vary depending on each role.

• General volunteer (Facilitator)
• Time commitment: 25 hours per year
• Expectations
• Complete required training
• Participate in a minimum of 4 debrief and share meetings per year (ongoing training and support in your role)
• Sit in on 1-2 sharing circles as an observer (training requirement)
• Sit in and participate in 6 sharing circles per year
• Remain up to date on relevant resources and programming available for young females in the area

• Mentor
• Time commitment: 20-30 hours per year
• Expectations
• Complete required training
• Participate in a minimum of 4 debrief and share meetings per year (ongoing training and support in your role)
• Sit in on 1-2 sharing circles as an observer (training requirement)
• Sit in and participate in at least 2 sharing circles per year
• Mentor 2 young females per year
• Remain up to date on relevant resources and programming available for young females in the area
• Senior Chairperson
  • Time commitment: 40-60 hours per year
  • Expectations
    • Complete the required training
    • Participate in a minimum of 4 debrief and share meetings per year (ongoing training and support in your role)
    • Sit in on 1-2 sharing circles as an observer (training requirement)
    • Facilitate a minimum of 4 sharing circles per year and draft the Just-Us Girls reports or plans
    • Remain up to date on relevant resources and programming available for young females in the area

Board Member Roles

Executive Member Roles:

• Executive Committee Member
• Time Commitment: 20-30 hours per year
• Expectations
• Attend a minimum of 75% of Just-Us Girls board meetings over the course of a year
• Attend the Annual General Meeting
• Contribute to the needs of the society as issues are raised
• Specific Expectations
• Chairperson shall be responsible for:
  • arranging a meeting place;
  • when present, chair all meetings of the Committee and Executive Committee;
  • assigning referrals to sharing circles, or in the event the task is delegated to a coordinator, to oversee and monitor the assigning of referrals; and
  • ensure that time frames are met and that all policies as well as actions approved by general membership or by the Executive Committee are properly implemented.
• Vice-Chairperson shall be responsible for:
  • all responsibilities of the chairperson in his or her absence; and
  • keeping minutes in the absence of the secretary.
• Secretary shall be responsible for:
  • advising members of a change in meeting place, date, and/or additional meetings;
  • maintaining an up-to-date list of membership;
  • maintaining a correspondence file;
  • keeping and reading/providing members with minutes to adopted at the subsequent meeting; and
  • assisting the chairperson as required.
• Treasurer shall be responsible for:
• keeping proper records of all assets of the Committee;
• ensuring all funds of the Committee are deposited in the name of the Committee in the bank designated by the Committee;
• ensure that all disbursements are made in accordance with procedures and approved by the Committee; and
• ensure that full and accurate records of receipts and expenditures are kept and maintained by way of approved accounting methods.
• Member-At-Large shall be responsible for:
  • standing in the place of one of the other members of the executive in their absence; and
  • fulfilling and carrying out other duties assigned by the Committee.
